Venues of Excellence pays tribute to Peter Darnell

It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of Peter Darnell, on 31 July 2018, following a short illness.

Peter served as chairman and board member of Venues of Excellence (Conference Centres of Excellence as it was known then) in the late 90s and throughout the 2000s, where he brought a great deal of experience and commitment to the consortium. Peter played a pivotal role in making our consortium what it is today through his business acumen and passion.

Following the sale of his company, the Chartridge group in 2013, Peter retired to Australia to enjoy time with his family.

David Vaughton, Chairman of Venues of Excellence, reflects on Peter’s legacy within both our organisation and the wider meetings and events industry: “Peter was highly regarded across the industry through his professional, knowledgeable and respectful approach. He was both a businessman and leader with a human touch.

To sum up his influence and reputation, when I first joined the board in 2003, I can recall feeling proud to sit on a board alongside the likes of Peter and I certainly learnt much from his advice, guidance and wisdom”

We extend our deepest sympathies to Peter’s wife Linda and his family.
