Venues of Excellence expands academic portfolio with University of Birmingham accreditation

Venues of Excellence (VoE) has increased the number of academic venues within its UK portfolio, following the accreditation of two event spaces at the University of Birmingham.

Both The Great Hall and The Bramall at the University of Birmingham have been awarded VoE membership, taking the number of academic venues within the national consortium’s UK portfolio to more than 25.

The Great Hall, which houses a marble rotunda domed ceiling, stained glass windows and a parquet floor, has a capacity of up to 1,000 guests, while The Bramall – a striking, modern auditorium – can seat up to 419 people.

The University of Birmingham joins a growing list of other academic venues across the UK with VoE membership, including Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, Nottingham Conference Centre, Keele University and Aston University, also in Birmingham.

Mandy Jennings, executive director at Venues of Excellence, said: “We’re seeing a growing number of academic venues across the UK come forward for Venues of Excellence accreditation, and the University of Birmingham is a great example of this.

“Our assessment team were amazed by the spaces at the venue, we felt it really embodied what a good academic venue should be – a perfect balance of grandeur and esteem with the same high level of technical excellence you’d expect from a purpose-built meetings and events space.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the venue to our portfolio and to add another prestigious academic venue to our membership group.”

Venues of Excellence awards membership accreditation to independent venues that meet and maintain a range of stringent high-quality standards across areas including facilities and customer service through to technology and environmental impact.

Malene Stanley, director of conferencing and marketing at the University of Birmingham, said: “We are delighted to be accepted as a member of Venue of Excellence and excited about the opportunities ahead.  The membership gives our customers a guarantee of the highest quality standards. We look forward to working with other members that like us strive to deliver excellence in conferences, training and events”.

This addition adds to the quickly mounting acquisitions Venues of Excellence has made to its portfolio, which has almost doubled in the last year.

University of Birmingham joins other West Midlands venues in the portfolio such as Coombe Abbey Hotel, Alton Towers Hotel and Conference Centre and Ashorne Hill.
