New Building Now Open at Saïd Business School
The Garden Room, Park End Street, Saïd Business School, University of Oxford
The extension is situated on the North of the Phase 1 building and next to the site of the scheduled monument Rewley Abbey. The design creates a simple and lightweight structure which limits the impact on the garden and maintains natural light into the existing dining room. It relates to the shift in geometry of the elevation to Rewley Road and the non-orthogonal facade of the dining room by overlapping the corner of the existing building and integrating with the garden wall.
The Garden Room cost £640k and is constructed using a steel frame, and enclosed using a lightweight aluminium glazed system. Large glazed doors allow the dining room to be opened up to the extensive gardens beyond. The standing seam copper roof was carefully detailed and incorporates flush automatic opening roof lights and a full length copper gutter with down pipe.
The architect Dixon Jones also designed the main building (Phase One) and The Thatcher Business Education Centre, which is adjacent to Oxford train station.
Holding up to 60 guests, the room is ideal for private dining, awards ceremonies and corporate Christmas functions. Read more about Conference@OxfordSaid
