In our latest Excellence in Practice feature we take a look at The Sundial Group and its sister company – Teamscapes Learning.
The Sundial Group is an award-winning events group, established in 1964 creating the UK’s first conference hotel at Highgate House in Northamptonshire.
Since then, the family-run company has built a reputation for combining innovation with excellence, continually listening to its customers’ needs to develop new concepts in the world of meetings and events and leading the way for the industry.
Here, Tim Chudley – Managing Director of the Sundial Group, gives us an insight into how the organisation established its experiential learning arm, Teamscapes Learning, and the impact it has had on the wider business.
Tell us about Teamscapes Learning and why it was created
The idea for Teamscapes Learning came about more than 20 years ago, in response to conversations with customers about what they want from venues.
The feedback we were gathering was showing that many customers want venues that can deliver much more than just a space to hire, they want to be able to draw on a venue’s capabilities to enhance delegates’ experiences and immerse them in engaging learning opportunities.
The concept was developed by Lucy McGibbon – Sundial’s Group Learning and Development Director, creating Teamscapes Learning to offer just that – experiential learning for both teams and individuals – and we’ve never looked back.
Today we work with a very diverse range of associates, from health and safety experts to chocolatiers to offer our customers a whole range of immersive experiences either at one of our own venues – Highgate House or Woodside in Warwickshire – or further afield.
What services does Teamscapes Learning offer?
We have a huge range of services available through Teamscapes Learning, so we ensure we work closely with our customers to make sure they’re choosing the most appropriate one for their team and their desired outcomes.
For example, we can focus on identifying talent within a team, inspiring individuals, developing leadership skills, creating strategies or encouraging teams to bond, through everything from musical activities to culinary experiences, treasure hunts, construction tasks and more.
We even offer an experience that gives delegates the chance to play The Apprentice!
How has the creation of Teamscapes Learning benefited the wider Sundial Group business?
Our philosophy has always been to be more than just a venue. We pride ourselves on being true experts in events and being able to deliver exactly what people want to use venues for.
By creating Teamscapes Learning, we’ve been able to bring this philosophy to life. We can offer customers much more than just a space – we can offer a specialist, bespoke service that will help them achieve their aims in a creative and experiential way guaranteed to leave a lasting impression for all the right reasons!
Teamscapes Learning has a great collection of very loyal customers who use us not only at our own venues, but around the globe too, so it’s helped the Sundial Group’s name and reputation spread far and wide. Just recently we delivered team building in New York!
All in all, Teamscapes Learning has definitely allowed us to maximise our customer relationships and deliver truly unique value for the businesses we work with.
