In this month’s Excellence in Practice feature, we head to Leamington Spa to find out more about Ashorne Hill’s newest addition – the Shedden Centre.
Unveiled in 2018, the facility is a self-contained assessment and development centre that offers clients full use of the space for recruitment, assessment and development-focused events that require privacy and confidentiality.
The centre houses a main presentation room, two exercise rooms, six assessment and interview rooms, a private assessors’ office, a welcome and refreshment area and onsite parking.
Here, Rachel Matthews, Marketing Manager at Ashorne Hill, shares with us how the venue came to be and what makes it so special.
Where did the idea for the Shedden Centre come from?
At Ashorne Hill, learning and development sits at the very heart of what we do. We work with a whole range of companies that require private space to conduct assessments or interviews, and we felt that there was a real lack of that kind of space within our region.
We wanted to tackle that problem and create a centre that’s more cost-effective for clients, too.
Often, a business requiring space for assessments or training needs lots of different rooms and spaces, making it a costly exercise.
We provide our clients with use of the entire Shedden Centre for a one-off fee, keeping things simple. Clients are free to brand the space throughout, too, enabling them to create a fully bespoke facility for their needs.
How did you bring the idea to life?
By working closely with our clients to ensure every stage of the centre’s development was informed and shaped by the people who will use it.
From a welcome area for coffee and refreshments through to breakout areas and creating grouped zones for interviews, presentations and smaller assessment rooms, we sought advice from businesses and used our own expertise in the learning and development sector too, to create a facility that flows well and exceeds expectations.
How has the introduction of the Shedden Centre benefited the wider venue?
The Shedden Centre has been very well received. We already have bookings in for 2020 and the feedback has been outstanding so far, with one client stating: “We run multiple assessment centres every year and finding the right venue can be a significant challenge.
“We wanted a venue which we could brand as our own and would allow us to assess 12 candidates in one day. The Shedden centre suited our needs perfectly by matching every need on our wish list and anticipating the needs we didn’t know we had.”
The introduction of the venue has allowed us to showcase more of the services we offer at Ashorne Hill, too.
We’ve been a provider of tailored learning solutions for more than fifty years and so, the creation of this dedicated assessment space enables us to provide additional training and assessment services ourselves, such as psychometric and skills testing, along with facilitation and support.
We also deliver a personal development programme to everyone who’s been through our assessment centre, supporting them in their own career pathway regardless of whether a role is secured.
And, alongside this, our experienced team are specialists in early career development including graduate programmes that provide essential skills to those entering the workplace.
