Staff moving up the ladder at Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel

Scotland’s Conference Hotel of the Year has announced its new Hotel Manager at the same time three other staff members gain promotions.

Denis Flanagan, who has been the Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel’s Food and Beverage Manager for the past two and half years, took up the manager’s role this month.

He said: “I’m really delighted to have this opportunity to further my career in the hotel and already relishing the challenge of developing our world class conference and meeting space while enhancing our restaurant and guest services.

“The Golden Jubilee has already a great reputation nationally and internationally and we plan to increase our reach whilst also engaging more with our local community.”

Three other staff are taking on promoted roles at the hotel include Vikki Gow, Lisa Hamilton and Greg Gibson.

Vikki moves from the post of Front Office Manager to the new position of Rooms Division Manager and will focus on maximising opportunities from the hotel’s 168 bedrooms whilst ensuring a warm welcome front of house.

She said: “I am thoroughly looking forward to leading this new department which merges the two successful departments of Housekeeping and Front Office.

“There are a huge number of challenges and competition in the hotel sector at the moment. My role will be to ensure that we are agile and can respond to demand quickly and make sure all our guests have a great visit.”

Lisa Hamilton will move from her current role of Front Office Host at Reception to take up an Event Planner role in January, where she will have an opportunity to work with some of the Golden Jubilee’s key conference clients.

Finally, Greg Gibson has been promoted to supervisor within the Food and Beverage team and is looking forward to this next step in his career.

The Golden Jubilee Conference hotel was named Conference Hotel of the Year at the 2018 Scottish Hotel Awards in April.

Nottingham Conference Centre, part of Nottingham Trent University is ecstatic to announce we have won ‘Best Exhibition Space’ at the esteemed Conference News Academic Venue Awards 2018.

The Academic Venue Awards celebrate the UK’s top Academic Venues, bringing them together with event buyers to network, share best practice, highlight progress and celebrate successes.

The second edition of the AVAs took place at University of Birmingham in The Great Hall on Tuesday 27th November.

Commenting on the award Nicola Webb, Sales and Marketing Manager of Nottingham Conference Centre, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won ‘Best Exhibition Space’ at the CN Academic Venues Awards 2018.

College Court awarded ‘Best Hotel’ at the Leicestershire Tourism Awards!

On Thursday 29th November the team from College Court and Leicester Conferences attended the Leicestershire Tourism Awards. Now in its 8th year, the awards are organised by Leicestershire Promotions and are aimed at finding the best tourism businesses in Leicestershire. College Court and Leicester Conferences were delighted to have been finalists in 6 of the 22 categories.

College Court, the University of Leicester’s dedicated conference centre and hotel were thrilled to be awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the categories ‘Best Customer Service’ and ‘Rising Star’, for Chris Hewitt, Front of House Manager. A fantastic achievement and accolade to the high levels of customer service the team strive to deliver on a day to day basis.

College Court then went on to be awarded ‘Best Hotel’ in the ‘Most Enjoyable Stay’ category, with the judge stating “Recognising that it is the experience that you deliver to your guests that matters the most, the judges had no hesitation in agreeing this year’s winner”. A wonderful recognition for College Court, which opened in October 2013 as Leicester’s leading conference centre and hotel.

Steve Crawford, Centre Director at College Court says: “I am delighted, honoured and humbled that College Court has enjoyed further success. To be awarded Hotel of the Year and be recognised for our excellent customer service and an award of Rising Star for Chris Hewitt our Front of House Manager has rounded off an amazing month of awards for us.”

The Leicestershire Tourism and Hospitality Awards are an incredible end to what has been an amazing November for awards and an end to a great year. Earlier this month saw College Court recognized as ‘Best Team’ at the MIAList Awards and saw further success at the Academic Venue Awards winning ‘Best Catering Service’.

Keele University Events and Conferencing win Gold at the 2018 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards

The 2018 Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards, supported by Pear Communications were held at the National Memorial Arboretum, where a host of guests from the region’s hospitality and tourism attractions gathered to celebrate Staffordshire’s best tourism businesses and their contribution to the growth of the regions’ tourism sector.

Thirteen awards were up for grabs, representing the diversity of the industry, with the award for Business Tourism sponsored by SSLEP Growth Hub being presented to the team at Keele University Events and Conferencing.

The award is a great accolade to the team at Keele University who have demonstrated their commitment to business tourism through the commercial business over the past 12 months, whilst aligning their business objectives to support the key objectives of the University.

The award, which had 3 venues as finalists in the category was announced by Joanne Malins, Presenter of BBC Midlands today and presented by Nicola Kent of SSLEP.

Emma Woodcock, Head of Event and Business Development, who attended the lunch with Kathryn Cannell, Lesley Martin and Joe Caine on behalf of the Keele University Events and Conferencing  team said: “It is a great honour to achieve the Gold Award for Business Tourism at the Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Awards, which recognises the commitment our team have in consistently delivering high quality conferences and events. Over the past twelve months we have strategically positioned our commercial business to support the University objectives, encouraging associations and corporate companies to utilise the fabulous event space we have available here on campus. This has attracted conferences and events which bring both national and international delegates to North Staffordshire. College Court, the University of Leicester’s dedicated Conference Centre and Hotel were delighted to have won ‘Best Catering Service’ at the AVA’s. Unique Venues Birmingham wins Outstanding Hospitality & Events Services Award by Asian Business Chamber of Commerce

At the annual awards organised by Asian Business Chamber of Commerce, Unique Venues Birmingham (UVB) was awarded the coveted ‘Outstanding Hospitality & Events Services Award.’

The Asian Business Chamber of Commerce awards aim to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the business community, following the launch of the ABCC’s ‘Diversity on Boards’ campaign.

Suzanna Reid Barreiro da Silva, Commercial Director, on receiving the award on behalf of UVB commented; “This is a great achievement and recognition of our hard work and the positive impact we are having on the region. This will provide UVB with a fabulous platform to raise the profile, provide new opportunities and achieve growth in the future.

“This also underpins our recent announcement to develop a partnership with the Monsoon Venue Group who are an exclusive venue and event management company managing the sales, marketing and delivery of all types of Asian occasions.  This award aligns perfectly with our partnership and how we recognise the diversity of clients in the West Midlands looking to host their events at UVB.

“We held our President’s Christmas Lunch for Premier and 1813 Club members there last year and a number of our members commented on how impressed they were by UVB’s offering.

“So it is great to see Unique Venues Birmingham recognised by the Asian business community, with the Outstanding Hospitality and Events Services award at the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce’s recent annual dinner.”
